How much Vitamin D do I need?
The FNB (Food & Nutrition Board) established an RDA for vitamin D representing a daily intake that is sufficient to maintain bone health and normal calcium metabolism in healthy people. RDAs for vitamin D are listed in both International Units (IUs) and micrograms (mcg). Even though sunlight may be a major source of vitamin D for some, the vitamin D RDAs are set on the basis of minimal sun exposure

In 2010 the Institute of Medicine's expert committee set a new "dietary reference intake" for vitamin D. They are as follows:
- Infants age 0 to 6 months: adequate intake, 400 IU/day; maximum safe upper level of intake, 1,000 IU/day
- Infants age 6 to 12 months: adequate intake, 400 IU/day; maximum safe upper level of intake, 1,500 IU/day
- Age 1-3 years: adequate intake, 600 IU/day; maximum safe upper level of intake, 2,500 IU/day
- Age 4-8 years: adequate intake, 600 IU/day; maximum safe upper level of intake, 3,000 IU/day
- Age 9-70: adequate intake, 600 IU/day; maximum safe upper level of intake, 4,000 IU/day
- Age 71+ years: adequate intake, 800 IU/day; maximum safe upper level of intake, 4,000 IU/day
Is this product Vitamin D3?
Yes it is!
WhatĄŻs the difference between Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3?
There are two types of vitamin D: vitamins D2 and D3. Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol), is made by mushrooms from exposure to sunlight. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), is the type that's made in your skin from sunlight. Vitamin D3 is >twice as effective at raising vitamin D levels in the body than vitamin D2 - and thatĄŻs why we use it!
Why should I take Vitamin D?
Although being deficient in Vitamin D is common, it can also lead to a whole host of health problems. For example, without enough vitamin D, it wouldnĄŻt matter how much calcium you ate to keep your bones strong because vitamin D controls the absorption of dietary calcium.
What is lichen?
Lichens are a complex life form consisting of a symbiotic relationship between a fungus and an alga. The fungus is the dominant partner, while the alga can be either a green alga or a blue-green alga - many lichens have both types!
